Quilts

Description

The Fries Museum in Leeuwarden is a museum with an extensive collection of quilts. The exhibition Quilts completely fills ten halls with them. The exhibition begins in the Treasure Room with exceptional pieces which have either come from the museum's own collection or which have been lent. Six themes from the exhibition are introduced in the Theatre: History, Methods and Techniques, Material, Form, Use and Emotion. The subjects allow you to see the varied development of quilts, from traditional bedcover to contemporary work of art. Above all else, the focus of the exhibition is on the story behind the quilt. For whom was the quilt made? And why? The extraordinary design for both the exhibition and the advertising campaign was from Studio La Meul.
