Description
Recycling waste material is a fairly modern innovation. Or perhaps not. In Rich from Rubbish, the visitor discovers how, 200 years ago, recycling was commonplace. Rubbish from the street was used to make gunpowder, fertiliser for vegetables was made from chimney soot and potato peelings were used to make paper. The Fries businessman Watse Gerritsma is our guide through the exhibition. He was the first to build a real factory without waste products. Everything was reused, nothing was wasted. Are we as conscious of the value of rubbish today?
